Exponentially fresh.

Note to anyone trying to pass my work off as their own or name drop me: my Google Alert game is thoro. Keep fuckin’ with me.

I stumbled across an interesting little ReverbNation page today which I refuse to link to because I ain’t giving them ANY sort of direct traffic or exposure. There’s some group out of Cali that apparently thinks that fabricating good press for itself is a wise business tactic. Are you fucking serious? Examine exhibit A with me, ok?

Screenshot from their page of my name, attached to a quote I NEVER MADE ABOUT THEM, attached to a publication I’ve never written for and, additionally, can’t even find in existence.

The original quote, that was intended to be about Q-Unique’s album, written for a review for HipHopDX earlier this year.

Is the industry really that fucked up that people are making up good press about themselves thinking they can really get away with it? I almost don’t want to pursue this and get it taken down, just so that it stands as a reminder of how people in this scene are really getting away with insane levels of deceit and bullshit. Oh, and I’m not the only writer who got snubbed…

Supposedly Calvin Stovall of XXL likes their music, too.

But, as we see here, Stovall really doesn’t give a fuck about these guys and was really saying that about Bun B in his review for Trill O.G.

As a writer I know it’s not likely I’ll ever get famous off of what I do, or that people will ever remember my name since it’s merely a tiny byline above the article the reader really cares about. It’s not like the average fan cares who wrote what. So in a way I’m flattered that they took the time to read my work and even spell my name correctly (although I still want to know what the hell an Underground Livestream is)…but this is the opposite of classy. Earn your press, don’t make it up. Also important to note is that a quote was also stolen from fellow HipHopDX writer Kevin Gary’s review of a Dorrough album in September of 2010. When I went back to screenshot the evidence of that, my quote, along with his, had suddenly vanished from the page. I have a feeling the people follow me on twitter and saw my rant. And still didn’t say anything.

Do the right thing, people. It ain’t that hard.
